Blue Hens lead by 18 after one-quarter of play
The game started with Delaware flying off to a 16-4 advantage with 3:51 left in the first quarter. The trio of Ty Battle, Tyi Skinner, and Jasmine Dickey would score 14 of the 16 points on the run. The Blue Hens defense swiped four steals during that 16-4 run. Dickey had three of those four steals.
Starting at the 3:33 minute mark, the Blue Hens would outscore Towson 11-7 to push their lead to 27-9 at the end of the first quarter. Dickey would score six of the 11 points on the run.
Hens lead by 13 at the end of the first half
The University of Delaware would start off the second quarter on a 9-2 run, which extended their lead to 25 points (36-11) with 5:02 remaining in the first half. One of the impact players on the run was Ty Battle, who had two points, one assist, and collected six rebounds. Senior guard/forward Makayla Pippin also played a big part in the run as she had three points, two rebounds, and one block.
Starting at the 4:24 minute mark, the Tigers would score 11 unanswered points to trim the lead to 12 points (36-24) with 1:23 left in the first half.
The Blue Hens would outscore Towson 7-6 for the rest of the second quarter to end with a 43-30 lead.
Delaware holds on to a 13 point lead after three quarters
The Tigers would start the second half off with some fresh energy as the team went on a 12-3 run to cut the lead to four points (46-42) with 5:42 remaining in the third quarter.
Seventeen seconds later, the Blue Hens would respond by going on an 18-7 run, which expanded their lead to 64-49 with 12 seconds left in the third quarter. The duo of Jasmine Dickey and Tyi Skinner would score 12 of the 18 points on the run. Rebounding was a factor in the run as the team collected eight rebounds.
The third quarter would end with Towson’s Aleah Nelson draining two free throw shots to cut the lead to 64-51.
Blue Hens win 85-71!
The fourth quarter would start off with the Tigers outscoring Delaware 15-10 to pull within eight points of the lead (74-66) with 5:10 left in the game.
Starting at the 4:32 minute mark, the University of Delaware would go on an 11-5 run to seal an 85-71 win over Towson. Senior guard Paris McBride and Ty Battle would score eight of the 11 points on the run.
