Blue Hens lead by seven points after one half of play
The game started with Elon jumping out to a 6-1 advantage with 17:06 left in the first half. Fifty-seven seconds later, the Blue Hens would fly out on a 15-4 run, which gave them a 16-10 lead with 8:06 remaining in the first half. Kevin Anderson would score seven of the 15 points on the run. Delaware’s defense also was a factor on this run as they had eight defensive rebounds and four steals.
The University of Delaware would outscore the Phoenix 9-8 for the rest of the first half to end with a 25-18 advantage. The duo of Jameer Nelson Jr. and junior guard Ebby Asamoah scored seven of the nine points during that time.
Delaware wins 71-62!
The second half opened up with the Blue Hens putting a little more cushion in their lead as the team took an 11 point advantage (34-23) with 16:37 left in the game. During that time, Ryan Allen and Kevin Anderson each swiped a steal.
Twenty-three seconds later, Elon would claw back into this game as the team would go on a 12-3 run to cut the lead to two points (37-35) with 13:02 left in the second half.
Twelve seconds later, Delaware would answer back by outscoring the Phoenix 11-6 to take a 48-41 lead with 9:05 remaining in the game. The impact player during this run was Ryan Allen, who scored two points, collected one defensive rebound, and had two assists.
Starting at the 8:17 minute mark, The University of Delaware would continue to push their lead further out of reach, as the team outscored Elon 15-10 to take a 63-51 advantage with 1:29 remaining in the game. Jyare Davis and Jameer Nelson Jr. would score 12 of the 15 points on the run.
In the last 1:20 minutes of the game, the Phoenix would outscore the Blue Hens 11-8, but the University of Delaware would hang on to win 71-62.
