Goldey-Beacom clinches fifth straight CACC Tournament Berth with nail-biting 64-63 win over USciences

All tied at 36 at the end of the first half

The game started with the Lightning jumping out to a 9-3 advantage with 16:56 left in the first half. The duo Nazim Derry and Juran Ligonde scored all nine points on the run.

Forty-six seconds later, the University of the Sciences Tommy Gardler would make a three-pointer to cut the lead to three points (9-6).

Seconds later, Goldey-Beacom would strike gold as the team scored seven straight points to increase their lead to ten points (16-6) with 14:02 remaining in the first half. Sophomore guard Mekhi Collins and Ligonde had a strong impact on the run. During the run, Collins had two points, one steal, and one rebound. Ligonde also had two points, one steal, and one rebound on the run.

Starting at the 13:35 minute mark, the Devils would go on a 14-4 run to tie the game up at 20 with 8:05 left in the first half.

In the next two minutes, the Lightning would outscore the University of Sciences 7-2 to take a 27-22 lead with 6:47 remaining in the first half. The duo of Derry and Ligonde would strike again as they scored all seven points on their team’s run.

A minute and a half later, Zachary Foley would score six of the Devils next eight points, which allowed them to take a 30-27 lead with 4:35 left in the first half.

Seconds later, Goldey-Beacom would answer back by scoring four straight points to take a 31-30 lead with 3:22 remaining in the first half.

In the next two minutes and 13 seconds, the lead would change hands three times, and the score would be tied twice. The last bucket during that time came from the University of Sciences Matthew McCaffrey, who would tip in a layup to end the first half with the score tied at 36.

Goldey-Beacom wins 64-63!

The second half began with the Lightning outscoring the Devils 12-7 to take a 48-43 lead with 13:28 left in the game. Rebounding was a factor during this run as the team collected seven rebounds.

Starting at the 13:19 minute mark, the University of Sciences would go on a 9-2 run to grab a 52-50 lead with 9:20 remaining in the second half.

Goldey-Beacom would respond by making back-to-back buckets to take a 53-52 lead with 6:21 left in the game.

In the next four minutes and seventy seconds, the two teams exchanged the lead four times and tied the score five times. The last bucket during that time came when the Devils Tommy Gardler made a layup to tie the score at 60 with 1:15 remaining in the game.

As the final minute of the game slipped by, the Lightning would outscore the University of Sciences 4-3 to seal a 64-63 win.
