Walsh & Thomas combine for 21 points in the second half to give Wilmington 79-75 win over Dominican (NY)

Wilmington trails by three points after one half of play

The game started with the Wildcats taking a 10-5 advantage with 16:01 left to play in the first half. WilmU drained two shots from the three-point line during that time, which came from freshman guard Ethan Tarte and Caleb Matthews.

In the next four minutes and 55 seconds, the battle intensified among the two teams as they tied the score three times during that time. The last bucket during those four minutes and 55 seconds came from Dominican’s Brandt Roundtree, who made a free throw to give his team a 22-17 lead with 11:46 remaining in the first half.

Eighteen seconds later, Wilmington would start on a 10-4 run, which would give them a 27-26 lead with 7:56 left in the first half. Junior guard Randy Rickards did not score any points on the run, but he had an impact as he had one defensive rebound, one block, and one steal.

Four minutes and 53 seconds later, the Chargers would outscore the Wildcats 7-6 to tie the game at 33 with 3:03 remaining in the first half.

As the final three minutes were ticking away in the first half, Dominican would outscore Wilmington 10-7 to take a 43-40 lead.

Wildcats win 79-75!

In the first four minutes of the second half, the Wildcats would outscore the Chargers 7-4 to tie the game at 47 with 16:06 left in the game. Rebounding was a factor during this run as the team collected five rebounds.

WilmU would continue to roll as the team started on 8-3 run seconds later to take a five-point lead (55-50) with 13:33 remaining in the game. Four of the eight points on the run came from the free-throw line.

Fast forward to the 5:35 minute mark, where Justin Thomas would make a jump shot to give Wilmington an eight-point lead (70-62).

Twelve seconds later, the Chargers would dash out to an 8-2 run, which would cut the lead to two points (72-70) with 3:44 remaining in the game.

Twenty-nine seconds later, Justin Thomas would hit a jump shot to push the Wildcats lead back up to four points (74-70) with 3:15 left in the second half.

Six seconds later, Dominican’s Daniel Grant would make a jump shot to cut the lead to 74-72 with 2:55 left in the game.

Twenty-seven seconds later, Randy Rickards would get a layup to go in to give Wilmington a 76-72 lead with 2:28 left in the second half.

At the 2:21 minute mark, the Chargers Jordan Burgess would tip in a layup to cut the lead back down to two points (76-74).

In the final two minutes of the game, the Wildcats would outscore Dominican 3-1 to seal a 79-75 win.
