Blue Hens lead by eight points after one quarter of play
In the first five minutes and fifty-two seconds in this matchup, Delaware would come out strong by taking a 7-3 lead with 4:48 left in the first quarter. Jasmine Dickey would score six of the seven points on the run.
Seconds later, the University of Delaware would go on to outscore UNCW 12-8 for the rest of the first quarter to end with a 19-11 lead. Delaware’s defense was solid during this time as the team had four defensive rebounds, two blocks, and one steal.
Hens take an 11 point lead into halftime
In the first eight minutes of the second half, the Blue Hens would add 12 more points to their score, of which six of the points came from two shots from the three-point line. Senior guard Paris McBride and redshirt senior guard Jewel Smalls each drained a three-pointer.
Delaware was not the only one scoring during that time as the Seahawks found the net frequently too, as they added 11 points to their score to trail by nine points with 2:23 remaining in the first half.
Starting at the 2:08 minute mark, the Blue Hens would outscore UNCW 6-4 to take a 37-26 lead into halftime. Ty Battle would score four of the six points on the run.
Delaware takes a 12 point lead after three-quarters of play
Fast forward to the 3:06 minute mark in the third quarter, where the Blue Hens held a 51-40 lead. Tyi Skinner was a key reason the Hens held an 11 point lead in the mid-third quarter as she scored six of the 14 points during the seven minutes.
Starting at the 2:21 minute mark, Delaware would go on an 8-4 run to take a 60-44 lead with 46 seconds left in the third quarter. Jasmine Dickey would score four of the eight points on the run.
UNCW would end the third quarter by scoring four straight points to cut the lead to 12 points (60-48).
Blue Hens win 78-69!
Delaware would open the fourth quarter by blazing off on a 16-2 run, which pushed their lead to 76-50 with 5:31 left in the game. The duo of Tyi Skinner and Ty Battle would score ten of the 14 points on the run. The defense also stepped up during this run as they had two steals, one block, and three defensive rebounds.
Starting at the 5:14 minute mark, UNCW would start on a 19-2 run, but it would not matter as the Hens hung on for a 78-69 win!
