Goldey-Beacom ends 2021 with 57-50 win over Millersville

Goldey-Beacom down by four points after one-quarter of play

The game started with Millersville jumping out to an 8-3 lead with 7:08 left in the first quarter.

Almost three minutes later, the Lightning would tighten the Marauders’ lead to three points (11-8) by a layup from Alexis Harrison and a three-pointer from Sarah Round.

As the minutes ticked down in the first quarter, Millersville would outscore Goldey-Beacom College 6-5 to hold on to a 17-13 lead.

Lightning down by five points after one half of play

Goldey-Beacom would start fast in the second quarter as the team went on a 7-2 run to take a 20-19 lead with six minutes left in the first half. Sarah Round would open the quarter with a made three-point shot, and Jhordan Gardner and Vera Lauhaluoma would each make a bucket on the run. Rebounding was also a factor in the run as the team collected five rebounds.

About a minute later, Millersville would go on a 7-1 run, which gave them a 26-21 lead at the end of the first half.

Goldey-Beacom down by eight points after three-quarters of play

The Marauders would open up the second half by going on a 7-2 run to push their lead to ten points (33-23) with 7:59 left in the third quarter.

Starting at the 6:38 minute mark, the Lightning would outscore Millersville 9-7 to cut the lead to eight points (40-32) after the three-quarters of play. Rebounding was once again a factor on a run, as the team collected six rebounds.

Lightning win 57-50!

Millersville pretty much owned all three quarters, but Goldey-Beacom took control of the one that matters the most, which is the fourth quarter. The Lightning started the fourth quarter going on a 19-8 run, which gave them a 51-48 lead with 1:45 left in the game. The leader of the run was Mickey Williams, who scored nine of the 19 points. All of Williams’s points came from the three-point line.

Starting at the 1:39 minute mark, Goldey Beacom College would outscore the Marauders 6-2 to seal a 57-50 win. All six points on the run would come from Alexis Harrison.
