Wilmington University’s softball pitcher Caitlyn Whiteside was drafted eighth overall on Wednesday in the 2019 American Softball Association (ASBA) Draft by the E1 Pro Ballers. Whiteside was chosen by the E1 Pro Ballers in the second round of the draft.
The former pitcher ended her career at Wilmington with 69-33 record, 66 complete games,678.2 innings pitched,641 hits, 282 runs, 210 earned runs,117 walks, 349 strikeouts, 47 home runs and an 2.17 ERA in 134 appearances.
In her senior season at Wilmington, Whiteside went 20-9, 23 complete games, 222 innings pitched,184 hits,87 runs, 68 earned runs, 51 walks,112 strikeouts, 19 strikeouts and an 2.14 ERA in 36 appearances.
Whiteside’s 20 wins set a new single season school record this year and she will also leave Wilmington as the all-time leader in victories (69), innings pitched (678.2), appearances (134), and shutouts (27).
The former Wilmington pitcher earned multiple accolades for her 2019 season which includes Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year, the CACC Tournament MVP, and a Second Team All-East Region member by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.
The American Softball Association is heading into their second season as the league is complied of four professional teams out of Satsuma, Alabama. The four teams play their games at Satsuma High School.
