The University of Delaware men’s basketball team earned their third straight win against a CAA opponent on Saturday as they beat Elon University 77-65 at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Sophomore guard Ryan Allen led the Blue Hens in scoring in the game with 19 points.
Redshirt senior forward Eric Carter earned a double-double on the night as he had 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Rounding out the double-digit scoring for the Blue Hens were redshirt senior guard Darian Bryant and sophomore guard Kevin Anderson who both scored 11 points in the win.
The biggest takeaway in the win was the Hens were drowning the three pointers and Elon was not in the game. Blue Hens went 50.0 % from downtown and Elon went 28.6 % from downtown in the game. Hens Ryan Allen went five for nine in the game from the three point line in the win.
Hens Ryan Allen Was Feeling It From Downtown
The Hens leading scorer in the first half was Ryan Allen who scored 12 points and that was mainly due to the four three point shots he hit in the half. The team overall had 57.1% shooting percentage from downtown in the first half which helped them build a big lead against Elon.
Elon as a team were not feeling from the three point line as they had a 30.8 % in the first half.
The first half started with the Hens going on 8-2 run which the team drowned two three pointers and had two made free throw shots in the time span.
The Hens would lose the lead and then two teams were battling back and forth with the lead exchanging frequently.
It was at the 3:44 minute mark in the first half where Delaware took their first firm hold of the lead when the team went on a 13-2 run to end the half. Allen led the run with six points which came from two three pointers. The run gave Delaware a 40-32 lead going into the second half.

Blue Hens were shooting 42.9 % in the first half and Elon was shooting 51.9 %.
Delaware was shooting 57.1% from downtown and Elon 30.8%.
The leading scorer for the Blue Hens in the first half was Ryan Allen with 12 points.
The leading scorer for Elon in the first half was Tyler Seibring with nine points.
Delaware Defense Tightens Up & Shooting Overall Improves In 2nd Half
The Blue Hens made it harder for Elon to find good shots in the second half as they had a 36.4 % shooting percentage in the half. Delaware on the other hand improved their shooting in the second half as they shot 57.9 %.
Delaware started the second half with outscoring Elon 11-5 which had their lead at 52-37 with 15:17 left in the game.
Around the 11:16 minute mark, Delaware went on a 10-4 run which increased their lead to 64-48 with 6:31 left in the game. Kevin Anderson led the the charge for the Hens on that run with scoring six out the ten points on that run.
Elon would outscore Delaware the rest of the way by 17-14 but it was little too late as the Blue Hens hung on to win 77-65 at home.
Blue Hens make to look it four straight wins as they go on the road to take on UNCW on January 10th at 7:00pm.
