Goldey-Beacom baseball team ended the season on a high note by winning five out their last eight games which landed them in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament for the first time in the program’s history. Not bad for a program that it is in their second year after half-century away.
On Tuesday, there were more good news for the Lightning which was the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference announced four Goldey-Beacom student-athletes were named to All-CACC teams.
Outfielder Raul Perez-Duran and Pitcher/Outfielder Brandon Abdul led the way with first team All-CACC honors. Also, second baseman Keegan Marsden and pitcher Trevor Jump earned second team All-CACC honors.
Raul Perez-Duran: First Team All CACC
Perez-Duran is no stranger earning a spot on the All-CACC team because last season the outfielder was named to the second team.
This season, Perez-Duran’s strong play earned him a first team honor with his season stats of .300 batting average, 48 hits, 15 doubles and 22 stolen bases ( 38th in the nation) in 48 games this season.
The Goldey-Beacom outfielder’s 15 doubles and 22 stolen bases are single-season team records.
Perez-Duran speed was shown in the the April 21st game against Dominican (NY) where he recorded five stolen bases in the game. The five stolen bases in the game was also a school record.
Brandon Abdul : First Team All-CACC
Abdul made the first team All CACC team as a utility player and the Goldey-Beacom player certainly showed his versatility this year.
When Abdul was pitching his stats were 62 innings, 48 hits, 38 runs, 31 runs, 36 BBs and 61 strikeouts ( fifth in CACC). The versatile Lightning player’s 61 strikeouts are a program record.
Abdul did not disappoint with a bat in his hand either as he went with .282 batting average, 13 runs , 22 hits, 14 RBIs and 12 BBs on the season.
The Goldey Beacom Pitcher/Outfielder had back to back games with strikeouts in double digits during the season. The first one came on April 13th against University of the Sciences where he struck out 10 batters. Then on April 21st, Abdul broke a school record with 14 strikeouts in a single game against Dominican (NY).
Keegan Marsden: Second Team All-CACC
Mardsen had the power in his bat all season long with a .307 batting average, 31 runs, 50 hits, 32 RBIs, six home runs ( 4th in CACC) and 29 BBs.
Mardsen’s 32 RBIs are a Goldey-Beacom record and his 50 hits is tied for first in the program’s history.
Trevor Jump: Second Team All-CACC
Jump was dominant in his freshman season going 55.2 innings, 39 hits, 27 runs, 22 ER, 28 BBs, 45 Ks, 1.97 batting average against him and had a 5-4 record. ( 9th in CACC). The freshman’s five wins this season are a program record.
On April 11th, Jump had one of his best games of the season against Post where he went 8 innings, 1 hit, 3 BBs and 11 Ks in the 4-0 Goldey-Beacom victory.
