University of Delaware Freshman guard Ryan Daly led the charge on Thursday for the Hens who had 27 points in a 69-62 victory over the Northeastern Huskies. The win marks Delaware’s first Colonial Athletic Association win of the season. The win also snaps a six-game losing streak for the Hens. Delaware also snaps a four game losing to the Huskies with this victory.
It all started in the first half where the Huskies came out roaring in the early minutes of the half going on a 8-0 run. The run was started by a Shawn Occeus three pointer and ended with an Alex Murphy lay up.
At the 11:28 mark in the half, Ryan Daly hit a layup and made a free throw to put the Blue Hens within three points of the lead.
After the media time out at the 11 minute mark, Delaware outscored Northeastern 16-6 to next media time out at 3:39. Delaware not only took the lead in that run but gained a nine point lead with the score being 25-16. Devonne Pinkard started the run with a three pointer and it ended with a Darian Bryant layup. Delaware would end with the lead of 28-25 going into halftime.
Delaware shot 42.9% from the field in the first half while Northeastern shot 47.8%.

Alex Murphy led the Huskies with 6 points in the first half.
In the second half the Huskies were ready to take the lead away from the Hens and that is exactly what they did in the early minutes of the half. About at the 17:29 mark, Northeastern went on a 9-2 run to not only take the lead away but to gain a five point lead with the score being 39-34. Devon Begley started the run with a three pointer and it ended with a TJ Williams made free throw.
A couple minutes later, Delaware went on a 12-2 run to regain the lead from Northwestern of 46-41 before the Huskies called timeout with 11:14 remaining in the game.
The lead did not last long about for three or four minutes the teams were trading buckets and the lead but then the Blue Hens started to get some momentum on their side.
The Hens outscored the Huskies 15-13 in the final minutes of the half to hang on to win 69-62 when the final buzzer sounded.
Ryan Daly led the Hens with 27 points in the game. Daly has been a points machine lately, with scoring in double digits in his last 11 out of 12 games.

“We got into a good rhythm tonight, with Ryan (Daly) running the point,” Delaware head coach Martin Ingelsby said. “He’s such a competitor, and it rubs off on the rest of the group. Eric (Carter) is a key guy for us, we got him back in the starting lineup and he was able to produce tonight. I thought our physicality on the defensive end in the beginning of the game was very important. We’re confident in this building; we compete and believe we can win here.”
Daly also commented about Thursday’s game vs the Huskies.
“This was a great team win,” Daly said. “We knew they were going to go on a run in the second half but we battled back, finished possessions and came away with the win.”
There were two other Blue Hens who scored in double-digits and they were Cazmon Hayes (13) and Eric Carter (11). Along with scoring 13 points, Hayes also recorded a career high 4 blocks in Thursday’s game.
Delaware (8-12, 1-6 CAA) stays at the Bob Carpenter Center to take on Towson on Saturday. Tip off is at 2 pm ET and the game will be televised on Comcast SportsNet.
