Four Blue Hens score in double-digits in 78-67 win over in-state rival Delaware State

The University of Delaware men’s basketball team will hold on to the Route 1 Rivalry trophy as they defeated their in-state rivals, the Delaware State Hornets, 78-67 on Wednesday. The Hens also move to 4-0 on the season with the win.

Senior forward Jyáre Davis led the Blue Hens in scoring with 20 points.

Three other Hens players who scored in double-digits were Graduate Student guard Gerald Drumgoole Jr. (16), Fifth-year guard Christian Ray (15), and senior guard Niels Lane (10).

Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (36-32), second-chance points (12-11), assists (16-11), and blocks (2-1).

UD also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 54.0 % (27-50) and Delaware State shooting 38.1 %(24-63). The Blue Hens also bested the DSU from the three-point line, with the team shooting 57.1 %(8-14) and Delaware State shooting 22.7 % (5-22).
