Game Two Recap:

The pitching in the first two innings of this game was dominant, as the two lineups only combined to get four hits through during the time.

Wilmington would break the silence on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning, where the team scored two runs on two hits and one error.

Sophomore outfielder Taylor Gillis would start the inning off by hitting a single to left field.

Junior shortstop/third baseman Lexi Moore would be the next batter up, as she would hit a bunt single to the catcher and would get all the way to third base from the throwing error by Goldey-Beacom’s catcher. The error also allowed Gillis to score, which gave WilmU a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.

Sophomore outfielder/catcher Tristyn Stewart would come up to the plate next, as she would get an RBI ground out to extend her team’s edge to 2-0.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Lightning would tie the game up (2-2) with one swing, as Autumn Simpson hit a two-run homer to left field.

The Wildcats would respond in the bottom of the fourth inning, with Taylor Gillis hitting an RBI single to second base to give Wilmington a 3-2 advantage.

WilmU’s pitching would carry the team the rest of the way to seal a 3-2 win over their state rivals, Goldey-Beacom.
