Blue Hens charge back with a 79-75 overtime victory over North Carolina A&T

Blue Hens would be up by seven points at the end of the first quarter.

The game started with the University of Delaware running off to an 8-2 advantage with 6:36 left in the opening quarter. UD’s defense played a key part in the run, as they had two steals, one block, and three defensive rebounds.

Fast forward to the 1:59 minute mark, where sophomore forward Michelle Ojo would get a layup to go in to give the Blue Hens a ten-point lead (18-8).

Thirty seconds later, North Carolina A&T would outscore Delaware 5-2 to cut the deficit to seven points (20-13) at the end of the first quarter.

Hens would trail by two points at the end of the first half.

The Aggies would come out in the early minutes of the second quarter, dashing off to a 12-6 run, which cut the lead to one point (26-25) with 5:01 left in the first half.

About a minute later, North Carolina A&T would continue to outpace the Blue Hens by outscoring them 10-7 to end the first half with a 35-33 advantage.

UD would trail by 13 points at the end of the third quarter.

The Hens could not contain the Aggies in the third quarter, as the team was on fire by jumping out on a 23-12 run to take a 13-point lead (58-45) into the fourth quarter. A& T was feeling it from the three-point line during that time, as they would drain four shots from there.

Blue Hens push the game to overtime!

In the early minutes of the fourth quarter, the University of Delaware came out swinging, as the team went on a 21-8 run to tie the game up at 66 with 1:35 remaining in the game. Makayla Pippin and Jewel Smalls scored 13 of the Hens’ 21 points during that time. UD also was on fire from the three-point line during the run, as they made four shots from there.

The Hens’ defense was also solid during that time, as they picked up seven defensive rebounds, and had one block.

Fast forward to the 14-second mark, where the Blue Hens Pippin would get a layup to go in to give her team a 68-67 edge.

Not so fast, The Aggies Jazmin Harris would push a layup in to grab a 69-88 lead for her team with eight seconds left in the game.

The seconds were running down, but the Hens Klarke Sconiers would get sent to the foul line, and she would make one of her two free throw shots to send the game to overtime!

Delaware wins 79-75!

In the first minute of overtime, North Carolina A&T would take a two-point advantage twice, but each time they did, UD was right there to tie the game right up.

Starting at the 2:18 minute mark, the University of Delaware would score four straight points to take a 75-73 lead with 1:25 left in the game.

Sixty-seven seconds later, the Aggies’ Jordyn Dorsey would hit a jump shot to tie the game at 75 with 58 seconds left in overtime.

Delaware would get the overtime victory by draining four free throw shots to seal a 79-75 win over A & T.
