Three Delaware State starters scored in double-digits in a 58-49 win over South Carolina State

Delaware State would lead by one point after the end of the first quarter.

The game would start with South Carolina State jumping out to a 6-0 advantage with 7:08 left in the opening quarter.

Starting at the 5:57 minute mark, DSU would outscore the Bulldogs 13-6 to end with a one-point lead (13-12) after one-quarter of play. Deyonce Thompson had the magic tough on this run, as she scored eight of the Hornets’ 13 points. She also drained two shots from the three-point line during this time.

Delaware State’s defense really turned it on during the run, as they had four defensive rebounds, three steals, and one block.

The Hornets would end the first half with a five-point lead.

In the early minutes of the second quarter, DSU would outscore South Carolina State 12-7 to push their advantage to six points (25-19) with 5:39 remaining in the first half.  Savannah Brooks scored eight of the team’s 12 points during the run. She also drained two shots from the three-point line during this time.

Del State would score three more points in the second quarter to hold a 28-23 lead going into halftime.

DSU would trail by three points at the end of the third quarter.

South Carolina State would come out hot in the early minutes of the second half, as the team went on a 12-2 run to grab a 35-30 edge with 6:17 left in the third quarter.

A couple of seconds later, Delaware State would answer back by scoring six unanswered points to take back a 36-35 lead with 3:48 remaining in the third quarter.

Starting at the 2:01 minute mark, the Bulldogs would score four straight points to end the third quarter with a 39-36 advantage.

Delaware State wins 58-49!

It was the Hornets’ quarter in the fourth, as the team went on a 21-10 run to take a 57-46 lead with 48 seconds left in the game. The trio of Tyshonne Tollie, Savannah Brooks, and Senior guard Alexis Moragne scored 19 of the team’s 21 points during that time.

DSU would add one more point to their score to seal a 58-49 victory over South Carolina State.
