Rickards’ late steal sets up Holloman’s game-winning basket for Wilmington University versus Goldey-Beacom

Wilmington University would lead by two points at the end of the first half.

The game started with the Wildcats jumping out to a 7-2 advantage with 15:19 left in the opening half.

Amiri Stewart scored six of the seven points on that run.

WilmU’s defense also played a key part during that time, as they collected four defensive rebounds and had one block.

Seconds later, Goldey Beacom’s Trey Lewis would drain a three-point shot to cut the lead to two points with 14:57 remaining in the first half.

Fast forward to the 9:21 minute mark, where senior guard Justin Thomas would put Wilmington up by 11 points (18-7) with him getting a layup to go in.

Starting at the 7:57 minute mark, the Lightning would blaze off on a 21-7 run to grab a 28-25 advantage with 2:23 left in the opening half.

In the last two minutes of the first half, WilmU would score five straight points to take back a 30-28 lead.

Wildcats win 59-57!

The second half started with Goldey-Beacom outscoring the Wildcats 18-13 to take a 46-43 edge with 11:37 remaining in the game.

Starting at the 10:06 minute mark, Wilmington would score six straight points to give them a 49-46 advantage with 9:17 left on the clock in the second half.

Fast forward to the 1:35 minute mark, where freshman guard Marcus Pierce had a layup go in to give the Wildcats a 55-54 lead.

A minute and two seconds later, Kevon Ferguson would drain a three-point shot to grab a 57-55 edge for the Lightning with 33 seconds remaining in the game.

Wilmington would be trailing 57-56 with the seconds slipping by in this matchup, but then at the 16-second mark, a game-changing play would happen for the team.

At the 16-second mark, the Wildcats’ Randy Rickards would steal the inbound pass from Goldey-Beacom, and then found his teammate Taalib Holloman, who closed the play out by knocking in a layup to give the team a 58-57 lead.

Wilmington would add one more point to their score to seal a 59-57 victory over the Lightning.
