Blue Hens would trail by three points at the end of the first half.
The game started with Delaware jumping out to a quick 6-0 advantage with 17:12 left in the opening half. One of the highlights during the run came from LJ Owens, who drained a three-point shot easily at the end of the run.
The Hens’ defense was strong during this time, as they collected four defensive rebounds and had one steal.
Delaware State did not take long to respond, as seconds later, they stung back with a 9-0 run to grab a 9-6 lead with 14:53 left in the opening half.
Starting at the 14:33 minute mark, the Hornets would continue to be hot as the team would outscore UD 7-3 to push their advantage to seven points (16-9) with 11:47 remaining in the first half.
Almost two minutes later, the University of Delaware would strike back by flying off to a 9-3 run to cut the lead to one point (19-18) with 8:13 left in the opening half. LJ Owens hit his second shot from the three-point line in the first half on this run.
DSU would outscore the Hens 14-12 for the rest of the opening half to end with a 33-30 advantage. The Hornets would heat up from the three-point line during this time as the team made two shots.
Delaware wins 77-69!
The Blue Hens would get off to a fast start in the early minutes of the second half, as the team went on a 6-2 run to take a 36-35 lead with 18:15 left in the game.
A minute and 13 seconds later, Delaware State would score six unanswered points to grab a 41-36 advantage with 15:53 remaining in the game.
Starting at the 15:28 minute mark, the University of Delaware would outscore DSU 11-3 to take a 47-44 lead with 13:20 left in the second half. Junior guard Gianmarco Arletti, Jameer Nelson Jr., and Jyáre Davis would score nine of UD’s 11 points during this time. Fast forward to the 12:18 minute mark, where the Hornets’ Corey Perkins drained a three-pointer to give his team a 49-47 advantage.
In the next three minutes, the Blue Hens would blaze off on an 11-2 run, which would give the team a 58-51 lead with 9:17 remaining in the second half. Delaware would be on fire from the three-point line during this time, as LJ Owens made two and Nelson Jr. hit one.
Five minutes later, Jameer Nelson Jr. would make a layup to push the Hens’ advantage to nine points (71-62).
UD would add six more points to their score to seal a 77-69 win over Delaware State.
