Four Blue Hens score in double-digits in a 72-68 win over Colgate

The Blue Hens would trail by three points at the end of the first half.

Delaware’s defense was hot early, as the team had two blocks, one steal, and one defensive rebound in the first two minutes of the game. The strong defensive play helped the Blue Hens get in good positions for shots as they took a 4-0 lead with 17:29 left in the opening half.

In the next two minutes and 76 seconds, the lead would bounce back and forth between the two teams until Colgate’s Jeff Woodward drained a jump shot to give his team a three-point advantage (11-8) with 14:15 remaining in the first half.

Starting at the 13-minute mark, the Raiders would continue to heat up as the team outscored the University of Delaware 14-7 to push their lead to ten (25-15) with 6:17 left in the opening half.

A minute and 69 seconds later, the Blue Hens would come storming back as the team went on an 11-4 run to slice Colgate’s advantage to three points (29-26) at the end of the first half. Christian Ray and Jameer Nelson Jr. would score all 11 of the Hens’ points during that time.

The University of Delaware’s LJ Owens would be on fire in the early minutes of the second half by hitting two shots from the three-point line to help to tie the score at 36 with 15:54 left in the game.

In the next four minutes and 41 seconds, the Hens would outscore the Raiders 10-7 to grab a 46-43 advantage with 11:13 remaining in the second half. The Blue Hens would continue to be hot from the three-point line in this half, as Jyáre Davis and Jameer Nelson Jr. each made one during the run.

Delaware would widen its lead to eight (58-50) at the 6:35 minute mark after the team went on a 12-7 run. Davis would score seven of the 12 points during that time.

Six minutes and two seconds later, Colgate would continue to fight as they outscored the Hens 18-11 to pull the lead within one point (69-68) with 33 seconds remaining in the game.
