The Delaware State University women’s basketball team earned their first win of the season on Tuesday with a 66-36 victory over the Wilmington University Wildcats. The win also marks the first regular-season victory in the head coaching career of E.C Hill.
Senior guard Denijsha Wilson was the leading scorer for the Hornets in the win with 17 points.
Freshman guard/forward Savannah Brooks also scored in double digits in the win, as she had 15 points.
Sophomore forward Tyshonne Tollie was locked on the boards all night, as she lead the team with 13 rebounds.
Delaware State had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (36-12), points off of turnovers (30-2), second-chance points (19-2), fast-break points (14-2), bench points (20-5), rebounds (48-42), turnovers (12-28), and steals (20-5).
The Hornets also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 36.1 % (26-72) and the Wildcats shooting 25.5 % ( 14-55). Delaware State also bested Wilmington University from the three-point line, with the team shooting 24.0 % (6-25) and the Wildcats shooting 19.2%(5-26). The Hornets were also the better team at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 50.0 %(8-16), and Wilmington University shot 42.9 % (3-7).
