Blue Hens shutout VCU in season-opening 2-0 victory

Blue Hens score their first goal of the game in the second period.

The game started with the scoreboard staying silent for 15 minutes in the first period, as neither could get any good looks to get the first goal on the board.

In the early minutes of the second period, the Hens would have two shot attempts at the goal blocked or stopped by VCU’s goalkeeper Sheridan Messier.

At the 7:24 minute mark, Blue Hens would finally get one past Messier as Ella Kaufman would score the first goal of the game to give her team a 1-0 lead.

Hens win 2-0!

The next score for the University of Delaware would happen in the late minutes of the third period when Berber Bakermans would smash the ball in the net to expand the team’s advantage to 2-0. Morgan Rigual would assist on Bakermans’ first goal of the game.

The UD defense would stop the Rams from getting any good looks at the goal in the fourth period. The Hens would ride the last minutes of the period to a 2-0 win over VCU.
