Wilmington scores 11 runs in sweep of Jefferson

Wilmington trails by one run after one inning

The scoring in this game would get started in the bottom of the first inning when Jefferson’s Ellie Egher hit an RBI double to center field to give her team a 1-0 lead.

It took some time for the Wilmington batters to get going, but in the third inning, the team would push in two runs to take a 2-1 lead.

The first run of the inning came when Tristyn Stewart reached first base on a fielding error by the Rams’ second baseman, which allowed Emma Zimmerman to score to tie the game at one.

Two batters later, Gabbie Saucedo would fly out to the right-field, which would allow Stewart to score to give the Cats a 2-1 lead.

In the next inning, Wilmington would add two more runs to take a 4-1 lead.

The first run of the fourth inning came when Isabella Eleazar scored on a throwing error by Jefferson’s shortstop to expand WilmU’s lead to 3-1. Two plays later, Courtney Dellinger would reach first base on another error by the Rams shortstop, which allowed Sara Miller to score to extend their team’s lead to 4-1.

WilmU adds three more runs in the fifth inning

The scoring streak would continue for Wilmington in the fifth, as the team would push in three more runs to take a 7-1 lead.

Kiersten Comer would get the scoring started in the fifth inning, as she hit an RBI single to right field to extend the team’s lead to 5-1. Four batters later, Emma Zimmerman would earn a two-out walk, which would score Comer to give the Wildcats a 6-1 advantage. Danielle Hess would be the next batter up, as she would get hit by a pitch, which would allow Lauren Lopez to score to give their team a 7-1 lead.

Wilmington wins 7-5!

Jefferson might have been down by six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but they would trim the lead to four runs (7-3) when they scored two runs.

The Rams would give the Wildcats a scare in the seventh inning when they looked like they might complete the comeback, but Wilmington would hold on to win 7-5.
