Wilmington gets the scoring started in the second inning
The scoreboard sat in silence in the first inning, as the two starting pitchers made easy work of their opponent’s batters.
In the top of the second inning, the Wilmington bats would start to make some noise as they would push in the first two runs of the game.
The inning started with Lauren Lopez hitting a single to center field. Two plays later, Sara Miller would reach first base by a fielding error from Jefferson’s shortstop. The error also let Lopez advance to third base. In the next play, Kiersten Comer would ground out to the first base, but another fielding error by the Rams would allow Lopez and Miller to score to give WilmU a 2-0 lead.
Jefferson ties the game up after scoring two combined runs in the fifth & sixth innings
Fast forward to the bottom of the fifth inning, where the Jefferson bats started to wake up as they had four hits and etched one run on the scoreboard.
Ali Murphy would push the first run of the game for the Rams by hitting an RBI single up the middle of the field to cut the lead to 2-1.
Jefferson would come back in the sixth inning and tied the game up at two when Sam Gomez hit a solo home run to right field.
Wildcats win 4-2!
Wilmington would answer back in the top of the seventh inning by scoring two runs to take a 4-2 lead.
Kiersten Comer would start the scoring in the inning, as she hit a single to left-center field, which would allow Haley Downin to score to give their team a 3-2 advantage.
Two batters later, Tristyn Stewart would hit an RBI single up the middle of the field to give the Wildcats a 4-2 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, it would be up to starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel to close the door on the 4-2 win, and she would get the job done as she had a batter fly out, strikeout, and pop out.
