Wilmington trails by one run after one inning
The game started with Post jumping on Wilmington’s pitching early as the team had three hits in the top of the first inning. The first run of the game for the team came from a mistake by WilmU’s defense, as the Wildcats’ shortstop Lauren Lopez committed a throwing error, which allowed Samantha Riccardulli to score to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Wildcats score a combined three runs in the third and fourth innings
After two innings of silence, the Wildcats’ hitters would start to wake up in the bottom of the third inning. The team would have two hits and score one run in the third.
The action of the bases started with Lexi Moore, who hit a two-out triple to left-center field. Gabbie Saucedo would step up to the plate next, as she hit a double to right-center, which would allow Moore to score to tie the game at one.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Wilmington bats would keep on rolling as the team had three hits, which they turned into two runs.
Emma Zimmerman would get things going for the Wildcats, as she hit a single to left field. Two batters later, Kiersten Comer would hit a double to right field, which would send Zimmerman home to give their team a 2-1 lead. Courtney Dellinger would step up to the plate next, as she would hit a single to left field, which allowed Comer to score from second base to extend WilmU’s lead to 3-1.
Wilmington wins 4-1!
The Wildcats would add one last run in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Haley Downin flew out to the right field, which would send Gabbie Saucedo home to expand their team’s lead to 4-1.
Wilmington’s starting pitcher Renamarie Rocha would carry the team the rest of the way as she threw two shutout innings and gave up three hits to seal the 4-1 win.
