Goldey-Beacom trails by two runs after three innings
Friday’s game would start with Bloomfield hitting a single down the left-field line, and then a sacrifice bunt. The Bears would earn the first run of the game by scoring on an error from the Lightning’s Carly Setting.
Two innings later, Bloomfield would push another run home as their lead would grow to 2-0.
A key moment in the top of the third inning came when the Bears’ Daniela Vidal hit a triple down the right-field line. Two batters later, Audrianna Ortiz would hit an RBI single to give her team a 2-0 lead.
Lightning ties the game in the fifth inning
After being silenced by Bloomfield’s pitching for four innings, the Goldey Beacom’s bats found life in the fifth inning.
The bottom of the fifth inning started with Hannah Davis earning a spot on base with a walk. Two batters later, Carly Setting would smack a double to left field, which would allow Davis to score to cut the lead to 2-1. The fifth batter in the inning would be Alex Lowry, who would hit a two-out RBI single to tie the game at two runs.
Goldey-Beacom wins 6-2!
The Lightning’s offense would strike again in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the team added four runs to take their first lead of the game.
Nicole Makin would start off the top of the sixth inning for Goldey-Beacom as she hit a triple to right field. Freshman Kelly Forrest would be the next batter up, as she hit a single through the left side, which would send Makin home to give their team a 3-2 lead. Kayla Vaillancourt would keep the line moving as she hit a double to left field.
On the next play, Hannah Davis would reach first base on a fielder’s choice, but it would allow Bri Snover to score to expand Goldey’s lead to 4-2.
The scoring continued as Vaillancourt would score on Bianca Newsom’s sacrifice fly to extend the Lightning’s advantage to 5-2.
Davis would score Goldey-Beacom’s last run of the inning from Carly Setting’s sacrifice fly to give their team a 6-2 lead.
In the top of the seventh inning, it would be all on starting pitcher Morgan McLane to shut the door on the 6-2 win, and she did just that as she gave up one hit, one walk, had a fielder’s choice, pop out, and had a player fly out.
