Wilmington trails 2-1 in the early innings
Unlike the first game, the Golden Rams’ bats were humming as soon as the second game started, with the team scoring two runs in the first inning.
The first West Chester run came by a throwing error from WilmU’s pitcher Renamarie Rocha and the second one would come from an RBI sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the first inning, Wilmington would respond by Haley Downin hitting an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.
Neither team would score in the next two innings, as each pitcher would dominate the opposing lineups.
Wildcats lead 6-5 after five innings
In the top of the fourth inning, West Chester would end their silent streak by hitting an RBI triple, and an RBI sacrifice fly to push their lead to 4-1.
Wilmington did not let the Rams have all the fun in the fourth inning, as the team would score two runs of their own.
Three batters in the fourth inning, Arianna Millan would hit an RBI single up the middle and also another run scored by a West Chester error to cut the lead to 4-3.
The Golden Rams would continue to expand their lead in the top of the fifth inning, as the team had an RBI sacrifice fly to take the score to 5-3.
The bottom of the fifth inning was a key one for the Wildcats as the team scored three runs to take a 6-5 lead. The team was helped by the Rams’ sloppy play, which led to Wilmington scoring runs.
Lauren Lopez would get the scoring action started as she RBI sacrifice bunt, but reached base on a throwing error from West Chester’s first baseman. The throwing error allowed Lexi Moore to score to cut the lead to 5-4.
On the next play, Gabbie Saucedo would reach base by a fielding error, which allowed Tristyn Stewart and Haley Downin to score to give Wilmington a 6-5 lead.
Wilmington wins 7-6!
WilmU’s lead did not last long as the Golden Rams would tie the game at six in the top of the sixth inning.
Neither team could break the tie in regular innings, which meant another game-winner in extra innings.
The game-winning run would come in the bottom of the eighth inning when Taylor Gillis would reach first base on a fielder’s choice, but it allowed Emma Zimmerman to score the game-winning seventh run for Wilmington.
