Cousins & Skinner lead Blue Hens past Northeastern in 66-63 win

All tied at 15 after one-quarter of play

The game started with Delaware flying off to an 11-4 advantage with 4:10 left in the first quarter. The duo of Jasmine Dickey and Tyi Skinner scored seven of the 11 points on the run. The Hens defense was also a factor on the run as the team had five defensive rebounds, one block, and one steal.

Seconds later, Northeastern would score 11 straight points to take a 15-11 lead with 1:12 remaining in the first quarter.

The Blue Hens would respond by hitting back-to-back buckets, which included Tara Cousins draining a three-point shot as the time expired in the first quarter to tie the game at 15.

Scored tied at 29 at the end of the first half

In the second quarter, the intensity of this game went up another level as the two teams exchanged the lead eight times and tied the score twice in ten minutes. The last bucket during that time came from the Blue Hens Tara Cousins, who made a three-point shot to tie the game at 29. Cousins scored nine of the Hens 14 points in the second quarter. All of her points came from the three-point line.

Blue Hens lead by seven points after three quarters

In the first eight minutes of the second half, Delaware started to catch fire as the team outscored the Huskies 20-10 to take a 49-39 lead with 2:01 left in the third quarter. The quartet of Tyi Skinner, Graduate Student forward Lizzie Oleary, Jasmine Dickey, and Tara Cousins scored 18 of the 20 points on the run.

Seconds later, Northeastern would go on a 5-2 run to only trail by seven points (51-44) at the end of the third quarter.

Delaware wins 66-63!

The Huskies would bring the momentum they had in the late third quarter into the fourth, as the team outscored the University of Delaware 15-9 to close the lead to one point (60-59) with 2:59 left in the game.

Twenty-one seconds later, Tyi Skinner would make two free throws to put the Hens back in the lead with a score of 62-59.

Northeastern would respond by hitting back-to-back buckets to give them a 63-62 lead with 1:45 left in the game.

At the 1:09 minute mark, Skinner would steal the ball and then get fouled, which would set up her making two shots at the foul line to give the Blue Hens a 64-63 lead.

Tara Cousins would close things out for Delaware as she hit a jump shot with 18 seconds left in the game to seal a 66-63 win over the Huskies.
