Derry scores 25 points in Goldey-Beacom’s hard-fought 73-69 win over Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom trails by one point after one half of play

This game was a battle as soon as the tip-off was over as the two teams exchanged the lead six times, and once the score was tied in the first two minutes of the first half. The last two buckets during that time came from Jefferson’s Erik Tinko, who made a layup, and Bismark Nsiah slammed in a dunk to give their team a 13-9 lead with 13:46 left in the first half.

Ninety-six seconds later, the Lightning would score three unanswered points to tie the game at 13 with 12:13 remaining in the first half. Freshman guard Trey Lewis played a huge part in the run as he had two points and a steal.

Seconds later, the Rams would rush off on a 10-2 run, which gave the team a 23-15 lead with 9:19 left in the first half.

Nineteen seconds later, Goldey-Beacom would strike back with a 15-8 run to cut the lead to one point (31-30) with 4:34 remaining in the first half. The duo of Nazim Derry and Tyler Jones would score 11 of the 15 points on the run. The Lightning drained three shots from the three-point line on the run, as two came from Jones and one from Derry.

Jefferson would respond by scoring six straight points to push their lead back to seven points (37-30) with 1:23 left in the first half.

A minute remained in the first half, and Goldey-Beacom would use that time to score six straight points of their own to cut the lead to one point (37-36) at halftime.

Lightning win 73-69!

The second half would start with the Lightning outscoring the Rams 13-6, which gave them a 49-43 lead with 15:39 left in the game. Nazim Derry would score seven of the 13 points on the run.

Starting at the 15:20 minute mark, Jefferson would outscore Goldey-Beacom 18-13 to cut the lead to one point (62-61) with 3:22 remaining in the game.

After getting their lead trimmed, Derry and Juran Ligonde would combine for six points to expand their advantage to 68-63 with 1:18 left in the game.

At the 40 second mark, the Rams Deondre Bourne would drain two shots from the three-point line within seventeen seconds to pull the lead to one point (70-69).

As the seconds ran down in this game, the Lightning would make three free throw shots to seal a 73-69 win over Jefferson.
