Walsh scores 24 points in Wilmington’s 70-60 win over Holy Family

Wilmington leads by four points at the end of the first half

This game was a tug of war after the opening tip-off as the lead changed five times, and the score was tied three times in the first six minutes and 52 seconds of the first half. The last bucket during that time came from the Wildcats Danny Walsh, who drained a three-point shot to give his team a four-point cushion (14-10).

Starting at the 12:39 minute mark, Wilmington would open up their lead a little further as the team went on an 11-4 run to take a 25-14 lead with 8:52 left in the first half. One of the impact players on that run was freshman center Nalik Veasley, who had two points, two rebounds, an assist, and a block.

About a minute later, Holy Family would come roaring back in the game as the team went on a 16-9 run to end the first half, only trailing by four points (34-30).

Wildcats win 70-60!

The momentum from the Tigers’ late first-half run followed them in the early minutes of the second half as the team scored nine straight points to take a 39-34 lead with 15:15 left in the game.

At the 14:24 minute mark, WilmU would answer back by scoring 11 unanswered points to take a 45-39 lead with 11:18 remaining in the second half. Danny was the leader of this run as he scored six of the 11 points. All six of Walsh’s points came from the three-point line.

Starting at the 9:54 minute mark, Holy Family would claw back into the game as the team went on 10-4 run to tie the game a 49 with 5:42 left in the game.

Seventeen seconds later, Wilmington would respond by dashing out on a 17-9 run to take a 66-58 lead with 21 seconds remaining in the game. Walsh would score 11 of the 17 points on the run for the Wildcats.

As the seconds ticked down, WilmU would outscore Holy Family 4-2 to seal a 70-60 win.
