Goldey-Beacom trails by one point after one-quarter of play
In the first five minutes of the opening quarter, the Lightning came running out to a 15-4 lead with 4:59 left in the first quarter. Sarah Round was the leader of this run as she scored nine of the 15 points. All nine of Round’s points came from the three-point line.
Starting at the 4:11 minute mark, the District of Columbia would answer back with a 14-2 run to end the first quarter with an 18-17 lead.
Lightning leads by one point at the end of the first half
Junior forward Jhordan Gardner would help give her team a push for the lead as she scored four of the six Goldey-Beacom points in the early minutes of the second quarter. Gardner’s hot start to the quarter would help give her team a 23-22 lead with 7:38 left in the first half.
Starting at 5:54 minute mark, the Firebirds would go on a 7-1 run to take a 29-24 lead with 4:23 left in the second quarter.
Seconds later, the Lightning would strike back with an 11-5 run of their own, which gave the team a 35-34 lead to end the first half. The duo of Alexis Harrison and Briana Seltzer would score eight of the 11 points on the run. Rebounding was also a factor on the run as the team collected eight rebounds.
Goldey-Beacom leads by three points after three-quarters of play
A minute into the second half, Goldey-Beacom College would have a five-point lead (39-35), but it was erased quickly as the District of Columbia would score five straight points to tie the game at 39 with 8:42 left in the third quarter.
It was not until the last minute and 24 seconds in the third quarter, where the Lightning was able to hang on to the lead as the team went on a 7-2 run to end the period with a 50-47 advantage.
Lightning win 72-62!
In the early minutes of the final quarter, Goldey-Beacom would jump out on a 7-2 run, which gave the team a 57-49 lead with 8:27 left in the game.
At the 5:16 minute mark, the Lightning would outscore the Firebirds 13-8 to seal a 72-62 win. The duo of Mone Izumi and Briana Seltzer scored 11 of the 13 points on the run. Rebounding was also a factor on the last run, as the team collected 14 rebounds.
