Both teams score a run in the first inning
The first run of the game would come from Coppin State as the team would score on a passed ball in the top of the first to give them a 1-0 lead.
Delaware’s Hanna Garber got the ball rolling for her team in the bottom of the first inning as she earned a walk and then proceeded to steal second base. Garber would follow that up by advancing to third base on a throwing error by the Eagles catcher.
The next batter up for the Hens would be Brittney Mendoza, who would hit a double to the left-center field, which would score Garber to tie the game at one.
Hens score ten runs in the second inning
The Blue Hens found the scoring spark in the second inning as the team would score ten runs.
Delaware’s first runs of the second inning came when Julz Garber hit a double to center field, which scored her teammates Lexi Moore and Zoey Valentino to give her team a 3-1 lead.
The next batter up would be Hanna Garber, who would hit a triple to the left-center field, which allowed J. Garber and Sarah Bessel to score to give the Hens a 5-1 lead.
Brittney Mendoza would keep the scoring going as she hit a single to the left side of the field, which would score Garber to give Delaware a 6-1 lead.
Karolina Flores would be the next on the scoring train as she hit a single, which would score Mendoza to give the Blue Hens a 7-1 lead.
Two batters later, Grace Hrustich would step up to the plate and hit a grand slam which extended the Hens lead to 11-1.
Blue Hens add two runs in the third inning
Delaware was not hitting the brakes on the scoring just yet as the team scored two runs in the third inning.
Both runs in the inning came from solo home runs.
Brittney Mendoza would be the second batter up in the inning when she hit her solo home run, which gave the Hens a 12-1 lead.
The next batter up was Brooke Glanden, who would also hit a solo home run, which gave the Blue Hens a 13-1 lead.
The third inning would be the last inning for pitcher Kailey Christian who went three innings, gave up two hits, one run, and earned the win.
Delaware would add two more runs to their already big lead
Freshman pitcher Delani Sheehan would come into the game to relieve Christian in the fourth inning as she went 1.1 innings and did not give up any runs or hits.
The two runs in the fourth inning came when Gillian Zack hit a two-out single up the middle, which allowed Grace Hrustich and Sarah Bessel to score to expand the Hens lead to 15-1.
Pitcher Kendall Shank would come into the game in the fifth inning to finish off the Eagles, as she went 0.2 innings and did not give up any runs or hits. A pop-up would be the last out of the game, which would seal a 15-1 win for the Blue Hens over Coppin State.
