UD scored both goals in the second period
The two teams came out to play in the first game of the season as the defense on both sides was pretty stout in the first period as zero’s remained on the scoreboard.
That would all change in the second period as Delaware would break things open in the early second period.
At the 49:06 minute mark, Kate Henesey would find the net to give the Blue Hens a 1-0 lead. Henesey’s goal was assisted by senior midfielder/forward Lizzie Weimer.
Fourteen minutes later, the Hens were threatening to score again as freshman forward Raychel Speicher would be close to getting a goal, but George Mason’s Louisa Moser blocked it.
Seconds later, Gabby Johnson would follow up Speicher’s goal attempt with her own, which this time Moser could not stop it. Johnson’s goal would be the last of the game as the Blue Hens sealed a 2-0 win. After the second goal, goalkeeper Lauren Krinsky would step up big for Delaware as she had four saves in the remaining minutes of the game.
