Blue Hens get their 15th win of the season in big matchup vs Drexel

Blue Hens lead by four points after one-quarter of play

The game started with Delaware running out to a quick 15-7 lead with 2:23 left in the first quarter. The leader of this run was redshirt junior guard/forward Chyna Latimer, who scored seven of the 15 points. The Hens defense came out strong on this run as the team had four defensive rebounds, one block, and two steals.

Starting at the 1:44 mark, Drexel would get on a hot streak of their own as the team went on a 7-3 run to cut the lead to four points (18-14) at the end of the first quarter.

Hens lead by 15 at the end of first half

The first six minutes of the second quarter saw the Blue Hens pour on the points as the team scored 11 straight points to push their lead to 29-15 with 4:41 left in the first half. Delaware’s defense continued their strong presence on this run as the team had six defensive rebounds and two blocks.

A highlight play on this run was Lizzie Oleary with the block and then finding junior guard Jewel Smalls who drained a nice three-point shot at the 8:50 minute mark.

Starting at the 3:54 minute mark, each team would score 12 points as the second quarter winded down, which saw the Hens still leading by 15 (41-26) at the end of the first half.

Twelve of the Blue Hens 23 points came within in the paint in the second quarter.

Delaware leads by six after three-quarters of play

The second half of this game started with the Dragons buzzing back into this one by going on a 15-6 run, which cut the lead to six points (47-41) with 3:40 left in the third quarter.

The only scoring after that Drexel run would come from the free-throw line as each team would make two shots each and Delaware would hold a 49-43 lead after three-quarters of play.

Blue Hens win by eight

In the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, the Dragons would outscore the Hens 9-8, which cut the lead to four points (57-53) with 5:17 left in the game.

At the 4:14 minute mark, the Blue Hens would start to sizzle as the team went on a 7-2 run, which extended their lead to 64-55 with 2:26 left in the game.

As the minutes winded down, Drexel would outscore Delaware 5-4, but it would not matter as the Hens would hang on to win 68-60.

Fourteen of the Blue Hens 19 points in the fourth quarter came within the paint.
