Hens down by four points after one-quarter of play
The first quarter started with Delaware jumping out to a 5-2 lead, which was thanks to redshirt junior guard/forward Chyna Latimer’s three-pointer and a made layup by Jasmine Dickey. The Hens were clearly in a defensive mind coming out of the gate in this one as the team had three defensive rebounds and a steal on the run.
Starting at the 6:11 minute mark, the Huskies would start to get on a roll as the team went on a 10-2 run, which gave them a 12-7 lead with 2:50 left in the first quarter.
The Blue Hens would outscore Northeastern 4-3 in the last two and half minutes of the first quarter to cut the lead to four points (15-11).
Delaware trails by three points at the end of the first half
The story of the second quarter was defense, as the two teams only combined for 15 points in the quarter. The Hens did outscore the Huskies 8-7 to cut the lead to three points (22-19) at the end of the first half. Delaware’s defense had six defensive rebounds, four steals, and one block in the second quarter.
Blue Hens lead by two after three-quarters of play
The Hens came out of the half ready to let the points fly as the team went on a 15-7 run, which gave them a 34-29 lead with 3:08 left in the third quarter. Jasmine Dickey was the leader of this run as she scored 11 of the 15 points. The Blue Hens defense was still strong in the second half as the team had five steals and one defensive rebound on the run.
Seconds later, the Huskies would score five straight points to tie the game at 34 with 1:43 left in the third quarter.
In the last minute of the third quarter, Delaware would outscore Northeastern 4-2, which would give the team a 38-36 lead heading into the final quarter. All four points would come from the foul line.
Ten of the Hens 19 points came within the paint in the third quarter.
Hens win by 12
The final quarter started with the Blue Hens going on a 15-7 run, which extended their lead to 53-43 with 2:14 left in the game. The duo of Ty Battle and freshman guard Tyi Skinner would score nine of the 15 points on the run.
Starting at the 2:02 minute mark, Delaware would outscore the Huskies 6-4 to take home a 59-47 win.
