Blue Hens sweep Northeastern with 68-61 Win

Blue Hens lead by three after one-quarter of play

The game would start with Delaware flying off to a 5-0 lead with 8:42 left in the first quarter. The five points came from two made free throw shots from Ty Battle and a three-point shot from redshirt junior guard/forward Chyna Latimer.

Northeastern would come firing back as the team went on an 8-2 run to take an 8-7 lead with 4:33 left in the first period.

Seconds later, Jasmine Dickey would make two free throws, and Paris McBride would drain a three-pointer to give the Blue Hens a 12-8 lead with 4:02 left in the quarter.

The last bucket of the first quarter would come from the Huskies Mide Oriyomi, who made a layup which cut the Hens lead to three points (15-12).

Nine of Delaware’s 15 points came from converting Northeastern’s turnovers into points.

Hens take a five-point lead into the half

The Blue Hens would open up the second quarter strong as the team went on an 8-2 run, which extended their lead to 23-14 with 5:56 left in the first half. The duo of Paris McBride and Jasmine Dickey would score six of the eight points on the run.

At the 5:22 minute mark, the Huskies would start clawing back into the game as the team went on a 9-3 run to close the lead to three points (26-23) with 2:23 left in the first half.

The last bucket of the first half would come from Ty Battle as she made a second-chance layup. which gave the Hens a 28-23 lead.

Six of Delaware’s 13 points in the second quarter came from within the paint.

Blue Hens lead by 11 after three-quarters of play

Just like in the first half, the Blue Hens would come out quick in the opening of the second half by outscoring Northeastern 20-10, which expanded their lead to 48-33 with 3:18 left in the third quarter. Six of the 20 points came from three-pointers, which came from Paris McBride and junior guard Jewel Smalls.

Delaware was not only on fire offensively but defensively as well, with the team collecting six rebounds, two steals, and a block on the run.

In the final three minutes and 18 seconds left in the third quarter, the Huskies would outscore the Blue Hens 8-4, which cut the lead to 52-41.

Ten of the Hens 24 points in the third quarter were scored within the paint.

Delaware takes home a seven-point win

In the fourth quarter, Northeastern came bursting out the gate with a 14-7 run, which cut the lead to four points (59-55) with 2:11 left in the game.

Starting at the 1:44 minute mark, the Blue Hens put the brakes on the Huskies comeback attempt by outscoring them 9-6 to seal a 68-61 win. The leader during this time was Jasmine Dickey, who scored five of the nine points for Delaware. Also, five of the nine points came from the foul line for the Hens.
