Hens lead by six after one-quarter of play
The intensity of conference play was felt right out of the gate in this one as this game started with the lead changing hands seven times and the score being tied two times in the first seven minutes of the first quarter. The last lead change during those seven minutes came from Chyna Latimer, who sunk a three-point shot to give Delaware a 15-14 lead with 3:58 left in the first period.
Fast Forward two and half minutes later, the Blue Hens would end the quarter by scoring five straight points, which expanded their lead to 20-14. Senior forward Lizzie Oleary would make a layup, and Ty Battle would make a three-pointer on the Hens 5-0 run.
One of the key reasons Delaware held the lead in the first quarter is the team turned Northeastern’s turnovers into 11 points.
Blue Hens take a 21 point lead into the half
In the first seven minutes of the second quarter, the Hens charged out on a 19-3 run, which gave the team a 39-17 lead with 3:41 left in the first half. One of the impact players during this run was Ty Battle, who had three points, five rebounds, and one assist.
In the last three minutes of the first half, the Huskies would outscore Delaware 7-6, but the Hens still held a comfortable 45-24 lead.
Once again, points off of turnovers was a big key for the Blue Hens as the team scored 15 points off of Northeastern’s turnovers.
Delaware holds a 37 point lead after three quarters
The Hens first-half momentum would carry over into the second half as the team went on a 14-8 run to extend their lead to 59-32 with 3:30 left in the third quarter. The leader of this run was Jasmine Dickey, who scored seven of the 14 points.
At the 3:06 minute mark, Delaware would continue to pour on the points as the team went on an 11-1 run, which expanded their lead to 70-33 as the third quarter came to a close.
Points in the paint was a key for the Hens in the third quarter as the team scored 12 of their 25 points from there.
Blue Hens win by 27 points
In the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, the Huskies would outscore Delaware 10-7, which would cut the lead to 34 points (77-43), with 5:52 remaining in the game.
Seconds later, Northeastern would start a 16-9 run, but it was too late and too much of a deficit to come back as the Blue Hens would cruise to a 86-59 win.
