Dickey scores 31 in Blue Hens 93-88 win vs St. John’s

Hens hold a six-point lead after one-quarter of play

The game started off with Ty Battle draining back to back layups to give Delaware a 4-0 lead with 9:29 left in the first quarter.

In the next three minutes, the Blue Hens would outscore the Red Storm 9-6 to extend their lead to 13-6 with 5:16 left in the quarter. Redshirt junior guard/forward Chyna Latimer would be a key player during this time as she scored four of the nine points and had a steal.

St. John’s would start making their way back in this game by way of the free-throw line as the team made four foul shots to cut the lead to 13-10 with 4:05 left in the first.

At the 1:58 minute mark, the Hens would outscore the Red Storm 6-3 to end the quarter with a 19-13 lead. Rebounding was a key during this time as Delaware collected eight rebounds.

All tied at 36 at the half

In the early minutes of the second quarter, the Blue Hens would turn up the heat as the team went on a 7-2 run to expand their lead to 26-15 with 7:54 left in the first half. One of the impact players on the run was Chyna Latimer, who had two points, an assist, a steal, and a rebound.

At the 6:56 minute mark, St. John’s would answer back with a 14-6 run of their own, which cut the Hens lead to three points (32-29) with 2:36 left in the first half. 12 of the 14 points on the Red Storm’s run came from the paint.

In the remaining minutes of the first half, St. John’s would outscore Delaware 7-4, but the score would go into halftime with it tied at 36.

Delaware down by two points after three quarters

St. John’s stormed out of the half, going on a 20-9 run, which gave the team a 56-45 lead with 3:53 left in the third quarter.

Starting at the 3:38 minute mark, the Blue Hens would answer back with a 12-3 run of their own, which cut the Red Storm’s lead to two (59-57)after three-quarters of play.

The key player on this run for the Hens would be Jasmine Dickey, who scored four of the 12 points, had an assist, a steal, and a rebound.

St. John’s had their best shooting percentage of the game in the third quarter with 69.23 % (9-13).

Blue Hens win by five points

Delaware continued to build on the momentum they had from the late minutes of the third quarter as the team went on a 20-7 run to take a 77-66 lead with 4:33 left in the game. The leader of this run was Jasmine Dickey, who scored 13 of the 20 points.

In the next three minutes, the Blue Hens would score ten more points, which had their lead at 87-77 with 1:29 left in the game. Dickey would score six of the ten points on the run.

At the 1:02 minute mark, the Red Storm would climb back into this game by going on an 8-1 run, which cut the Hens lead to three points (88-85) with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

In the remaining minutes of the fourth quarter, Delaware would outscore St. John’s 5-3 to seal a 93-88 win.

The Blue Hens had their best shooting percentage of the game in the fourth quarter with 82.35 % (14-17).
