Delaware Opens season with Dominating 111-54 win vs Salem

Blue Hens hold a five-point lead after the first quarter

In the first six minutes of this game, it was pretty close as the lead changed hands five times, and the score was tied three times. The final lead change in those six minutes came from Delaware’s Tee Johnson as she sunk a three-pointer to give her team a 10-7 lead.

For the rest of the first quarter, the Hens would outscore the Tigers 12-10 to take a 22-17 lead after one-quarter of play. In those final five minutes of the quarter, there were three players whose effort helped Delaware hold on to the lead which they were Jasmine Dickey, Ty Battle, and Brynn Wade.

Dickey had five points in the final minutes of the first quarter.

Battle had three points, one steal, and one rebound in the final minutes of the first quarter.

Wade had two points, one steal, and three rebounds in the final minutes of the first quarter.

Hens take a 24 point lead into the half

The second quarter saw the Blue Hens starting to heat up as the team went on a 17-6 run, which gave Delaware a 39-23 lead with four minutes left in the first half. The trio of Jasmine Dickey, Ty Battle, and Lizzie Oleary would score all 17 points on the run.

Starting at the 3:32 minute mark, the red hot Blue Hens would go on another run, which this time was a 16-8 run, and this expanded the team’s lead to 55-31 going into the half. The duo of Dickey and Battle would score 11 of the 16 points on the run.

The stat line that stood out in the second quarter was rebounding as the Hens outrebounded Salem 20-6.

Delaware also had their best shooting percentage of the game in the second quarter with 57.14 % (12-21).

Blue Hens take a 39 point lead after three quarters

Delaware continued to roll in the second half as the team went on a 19-9 run to extend their lead to 74-40 with 4:01 left in the third quarter. The trio of Jasmine Dickey, Tyi Skinner, and redshirt junior guard/forward Chyna Latimer would score 14 of the 19 points on the run.

At the 3:46 minute mark, the Hens would go on an 8-3 run, which gave the team a 39 point lead (82- 43) after three-quarters of play. Freshman guard Jadaia Reid and Skinner would each drain a three-point shot on the run.

The stat line that stood out in the third quarter was the Blue Hens bench outscored the Tigers bench by 11-1.

Delaware wins the game by 57 points

Salem could not stop the freight train that was the Hens offense as the team went on a 14-3 run to expand their lead to 96-46 with 6:14 left in the game. The leader of this run was Jasmine Dickey, who scored six of the 14 points.

Starting at the 4:44 minute mark, the Blue Hens would go off on another run, which this time was a 12-5 run, and that would give the team a 108-51 lead with 1:48 left in the fourth quarter.

In the final minutes of the game, Delaware would add three more points to seal a dominating 111-54 season-opening win.

The Blue Hens outrebounded Salem 25-7 in the fourth quarter.

The Hens bench outplayed the Tigers bench as the team outscored them by 16-5.

Delaware went inside for most of the fourth quarter as the team scored 18 points in the paint.

The Blue Hens will travel to Dover, Delaware. as the team takes on in-state rival the Delaware State Hornets on December 2nd.
