Delaware Gets 20th Win Of The Season With A Dominating 70-48 Win Vs Northeastern

The University of Delaware men’s basketball team earned their 20th win of the season on Thursday as the team defeated the Northeastern Huskies 70-48 at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The leading scorer of the game for the Blue Hens was redshirt junior guard Nate Darling who had 17 points.

Two other Blue Hen players scored in double digits which were junior guard Ryan Allen (10) and redshirt sophomore forward Justyn Mutts (13).

Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in this game which included points in the paint (38-24), points off turnovers (25-15), fast-break points (13-6), bench points (14-10), rebounds (32-29), assists( 13-9), turnovers (13-14)and blocks (5-1).

The Blue Hens also bested Northeastern in shooting percentage by shooting 54.0 % (27-50) and the Huskies shot 37.0 % (20-54). Delaware also had the advantage at the three-point line by shooting 33.3 %(6-18) and Northeastern shot 28.6 % (6-21).

Delaware took advantage of the opportunity to get free points as the team shot  76.9 %(10-13) at the free-throw line. The Huskies shot 33.3 % (2-6) at the free-throw line in the game.

Blue Hens Take A 22 Point Lead Into The Half

The leading scorer for Delaware in the first half was Nate Darling who had 17 points. Delaware’s court vision to the bucket in the first half was hard for the Huskies to stop as the team shot 55.56 % (15-27). The Hens also shot 90.00 % (9-10) at the free-throw line in the first half.

Northeastern shot 36.00 % (9-25) in the first half and they also shot 50.00 % (2-4) at the free-throw line.

The game started with the Blue Hens flying out to an 11-2 lead which was lead by Nate Darling who scored all 11 points.

At the 15:48 minute mark, Delaware would start an 18-2 run which would push their lead to 29-6 with 11:20 left in the half. Darling would be the leader of this run as he scored six of the 18 points.

Starting at the 7:45 minute mark, the Blue Hens would outscore the Huskies 14-7 for the rest of the half to take a 43-21 lead. Justyn Mutts was the leader of this run as he scored seven of the 14 points.

Hens Take Home A 22 Point Victory

The leading scorers in the second half for the Blue Hens were Ryan Allen, junior guard Kevin Anderson, and redshirt junior forward Dylan Painter who each scored five points.

Delaware dipped a little bit in their shooting as the team shot 52.17 % (12-23) in the second half. The Hens also shot 33.33 % (1-3) at the free-throw line in the second half.

Northeastern shot 37.93 % (11-29) in the second half and they also shot 35.71 % (5-14) at the free-throw line.

In the first 14 minutes of the second half, the Hens would outscore the Huskies 21-17 which extended their lead to 66-38.

Starting at the 5:09 minute mark, Northeastern would outscore Delaware 7-4 for the rest of the game but it would not matter as the Hens still walked away with a dominating 70-48 win.

Delaware stays at home to take on Hofstra on February 22nd at 4 PM ET.
