Wesley’s Brian Cameron Earns Atlantic East Player of the Year

The Atlantic East Conference announced their 2019 All-Conference team and player awards for men’s basketball on Tuesday and Wesley College nabbed two honors.

The top award for any player is being named the top player in the conference and Wolverines junior guard  Brian Cameron was named the Atlantic East Player of the Year by the Conference on Tuesday. Cameron was also named to the All-Atlantic East First Team.

Cameron averaged 26.6 points per game ( fourth in the nation) , 6.7 rebounds (sixth in AEC) and 2.9  assists (sixth in AEC) in 35.9 minutes per game in 27 games this season. Cameron set multiple single season records for Wesley this season with points ( 718) and free throws made (147). Cameron knew how to pour on the points as he scored 20 plus points in 23 out of  27 games this season.  The Atlantic East Player of the Year also  scored in double digits in all but one game this season. Cameron also hit the 1,000 point milestone this season with Wesley.

The Wesley guard scored a career high 48 points against  Cabrini University Cavaliers in the Atlantic East quarterfinals tournament this season.

This is the third time Cameron was honored by a conference with being named Capital Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year in the 2016-2017 and First Team All-CAC in 2017-18.

Cameron joins David Langan ( 2013-14) Paul Reynolds  (2012-13 )and Rashawn Johnson (2008-2009) of Wesley players winning the conference player of the year.

Cameron was not the only Wesley College player honored as senior guard Evan Anderson was named to All-Atlantic East Second Team.

Anderson averaged 18.5 points per game ( third in AEC) , 3.8 rebounds per game, 1.4 assists and 1.3 steals in 37.3 minutes per game in 27 games.  Wesley’s senior guard holds a single season school record with 89 three pointers made.

Just like his teammate Cameron, Anderson scored in double digits in all but one game this season and also hit the 1,000 point career milestone.
