Three Wildcats Score In Double Digits In Dominating 81-59 Win Vs Chestnut Hill

The Wilmington University men’s basketball team took care of business on Tuesday at the WU Athletics Complex as the team beat the Chestnut Hill College Griffins 81-59.

Redshirt junior guard Jermaine Head led the Wildcats in scoring in the game with 26 points.

Wilmington’s freshman forward Jordan Harding recorded a double-double in the game with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior guard Thomas Farrior also scored in double digits in the Wildcats win as he had 24 points.

Wilmington’s bench did an excellent job of picking up where the starters left off as they outscored Chestnut Hill’s bench 38-6.

There were two different stories on shooting the ball in this game as Wilmington had the shooting touch and the Griffins struggled to find good shots.

Wilmington had 43.9% shooting percentage in the game and the Griffins had a 37.7% shooting percentage.

Wildcats also shot 40.0% from the three point line and 61.1% from the free throw line.

Chestnut Hill shot 9.1% from the three point line and 55% from the foul line.

 

Head & Harding Scores in Double Digits To Help WilmU To Solid 1st Half Lead

The leading scorer for the Wildcats in the first half was Jermaine Head with 14 points and his teammate Jordan Harding was right behind him with 13 points.

The three point line and the free throw line is where Wilmington gained their advantage in the first half. Wilmington shot  42.9% at three point line in the first half and the Griffins did not make any of their 10 attempts  from downtown. WilmU shot 66.7% at the free throw line in the first half and Chestnut Hill shot 30%.

The game started with the Wildcats quickly jumping out to 8-2 lead over the Griffins which was led by Head who scored five out of the eight points on the run.

Around the 15:21 minute mark, Wilmington went on a 9-4 run which increased their lead to 17-8 with 12:36 left in the half.

At the 9:30 minute mark, the Griffins were able to cut Wilmington’s lead down to 17-15 and the game remained close for about a couple of minutes.

The Wildcats outscored Chestnut Hill 21-10 for the rest of the half to take a 38-25 lead into the half.

Wilmington shot 42.9% in the first half and the Griffins shot 39.3%.

WilmU shot 66.7% at the free throw line in the first half and Chestnut Hill shot 30%.

Griffins leading scorer in the first half was Roman Letterlough with six points.

 

Farrior & Head Lead the Wildcats to Close out Solid Win

In the second half, the leading scorer for the Wildcats was Thomas Farrior who scored 15 points and his teammate Jermaine Head was right behind him with 12 points.

The Wildcats won the turnover battle in the second half by 8-3.

Wilmington went on a 7-2 run in the early minutes of the second half to extend their lead to 45-31 with 16:11 left in the game.

WilmU would outscore the Griffins 36-28 for the rest of the half to take home a 89-59 win when the final buzzer sounded.

Wilmington heads on the road to take on Post on January 26th at 3:00pm ET.
