It was a tough year for the Wilmington University women’s basketball team who decreased their total wins from the 2016-2017 season by half ( 12-16 & 9-10 CACC). The season might not gone the way the Wildcats wanted but they definitely fought and scrapped the whole season. Wilmington averaged 68.6 points per game this season which was fourth-best in the conference. The team had the firepower they just could never put it together on a consistent basis.
The season started with promise with Wilmington University winning the season opener against Franklin Pierce 79-67. It was the first time since the 2015-2016 season, that Wilmington had won a season opener. The leading scorer of the game for the Wildcats was guard Macy Robinson who scored 24 points and had 10 rebounds for a double-double in the win.
Robinson was one of Wilmington’s leaders this season constantly leading the team in points per game. Robinson led the team with 14.4 points game per game and 390 total points scored in the season.

Then the Wildcats hit a tough streak with a two-game losing streak against Bentley and Clarion.
The two-game losing streak was halted with a hard-fought 69-54 victory against the University of the District of Columbia. Guard LaShyra Williams led the team with 21 points in the win. Robinson had 12 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double and forward Jadyn Whitsitt had 13 points.

Williams might only played 7 games this season but ranked fourth on the team with 12.4 points per game and seventh with total points with 87.
Whitsitt averaged 11.7 points per game which were good for fifth on the team for the season. The forward was fourth on the team in total points with 292 on the season.
After that win, the Wildcats went on a tough three-game losing to Bowie State, Lincoln (Pa.), and LIU Post.
Wilmington then opened their CACC schedule at home with a 73-62 win vs Holy Family. Jadyn Whitsitt led the team with 20 points in the win. Forward Nyree Grant had 19 points in the game. Robinson had 17 points and 14 rebounds in the game.
Grant averaged 13.7 points per game this season which was second-best on the team. The forward was also second on the team in total points for the season with 384.
Wildcats followed their first CACC win with a road CACC loss against Goldey-Beacom.

After the tough loss, Wilmington followed it up with a dominating 79-66 win against Lock Haven. Guard Emma Matthews led the team with 26 points in the win. Robinson had 21 points and 11 rebounds for the game. Grant had 15 points in Wilmington’s win against Lock Haven.
Matthews averaged 13.6 points per game this season which put her third on the team. The guard also ranked third on the team with total points with 380.
The Wildcats then was hit with another three game losing streak by Jefferson, USciences and Chestnut Hill.

Wilmington put the brakes on the losing streak with their last home win against CACC opponent Georgian Court by 86-83. Every starter in this win hit double digits in points and was led by Macy Robinson who continued do what she does best, get those double-doubles. Robinson had 29 points and 11 rebounds which majority of her points came from six three pointers she hit in the game. Matthews ( 13), Grant (14), Whitsitt (11) and guard Mikala Casimir (13) all scored in double digits as well in the win.
Casimir averaged 5.5 points per game this season which was seventh best on the team. The guard was also sixth on the team in total points this season with 127.

The inconsistency of the season continue for Wilmington as they were hit by another three game losing streak with losses against Caldwell, Concordia (N.Y.) and Jefferson.

Then the last win of the season for the Wildcats halted the losing streak with a 80-76 win against CACC foe Nyack. Robinson led the with 31 points and made eight three pointers which puts her second in program history with most made three pointers in the NCAA era. Grant came out strong as well with 14 points and 11 rebounds which gave her a double-double in the win. Casimir (11) scored in double digits in the win as well.
The end of January and the month of February was not kind to the Wildcats as they closed the season with a 11 game losing streak. One positive thing did happen during the losing streak and that was Macy Robinson scored her 1,000 career point in season finale loss against Goldey-Beacom.
