The Wilmington University baseball team swept the Caldwell University Cougars on Saturday with an 11-1 win in the first game and a 2-1 victory in the second matchup.

Game Recap GM1:
Wilmington University leads by five runs at the end of the fourth inning.
Sophomore outfielder Brian Klumpp would get the scoring started for the Cats in this game when he drove a runner on home when he landed on first base with a fielder’s choice. That run would give WilmU a 1-0 edge at the end of the first inning.
In the bottom of the second inning, Junior shortstop/pitcher Garrett Quinn and Senior infielder Tyler Pirrung each had an RBI single to extend the Wildcats’ advantage to 3-0.
Two Innings later, junior infielder/pitcher Chase Fleming slapped a two-run single through the right side to expand Wilmington’s lead to 5-0.
The Wildcats take home an 11-1 win!
It would take until the top of the sixth inning to see Caldwell on the scoreboard, as a sacrifice fly would make that happen.
Fast forward to the bottom of the seventh inning, where the Wildcats’ offense exploded by scoring six runs on six hits and three stolen bases to seal an 11-1 win.
Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Zach Frame opened the inning with a bang as he smoked a solo homer to right field.
Then, Junior shortstop Justin Hernandez and Tyler Pirrung each hit an RBI single to take the score to 8-1.
Senior outfielder Cam Trego ended the game with some fireworks as he slugged a three-run homer to right field to seal an 11-1 win.
Pitching Recap:
Junior pitcher Xavier Cortez earned the win by pitching seven innings, giving up five hits, one run, one earned run, two walks, and striking out seven batters.
Game Recap GM2:
Wilmington University takes home a 2-1 win!
The Wildcats’ only runs in this game would happen in the bottom of the third inning, where Tyler Pirrung hit a RBI single, and Cam Trego knocked a RBI double to right center to give their team a 2-0 lead.
Caldwell made it interesting at the top of the seventh when they hit a solo home run, but couldn’t do anything after that, which had the Cats hold on to a 2-1 victory.
Pitching Recap:
Redshirt freshman John Grybowski earned the win by going five innings, giving up three hits, and striking out seven batters.
Senior pitcher Scott Borgmann finished the game by pitching two innings, giving up two hits, one run, one earned run, and earned the save
