Home Runs and Walk-Off Winner Help Goldey-Beacom Sweep Felician

The Goldey-Beacom College baseball team earned a sweep versus the Felician University Golden Falcons with a 9-5 win in the first game and a 5-4 victory in the second matchup.

Game Recap GM1:

The Lightning leads by two at the end of the fifth inning.

Felician would get on the board first in this game when Luis De la Cruz smoked a two-out solo homer to right field to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Goldey-Beacom wouldn’t score its first runs until the bottom of the fifth, when sophomore infielder Jaime Neris Jr. slapped a three-run home run to left center to give his team a 3-1 advantage.

Goldey-Beacom takes home a 9-5 win!

In the seventh inning, the home runs were flying for the Lightning as Freshman outfielder Kaden Barmer, junior outfielder Trey Mason, and Jamie Neris Jr. all hit solo bombs to bring the score to 6-1.

The Golden Falcons came flying back in the top of the eighth, as they scored four runs on three hits to cut the deficit to one run (6-5).

GBC would seal the win in the bottom of the inning, with Sophomore outfielder/pitcher Roman Keith scoring on a throwing error, and Mason hit a two-run single to left field to put the team’s lead at 9-5.

Pitching Recap:

Goldey-Beacom used three pitchers in the game, including sophomoreGeorge Starr, who earned the win by pitching seven innings, giving up four hits, two runs, two earned runs, and two walks.

Senior Kevin Dillone earned the save by going 1.2 innings, giving up one hit and three walks.

Game Recap GM2:

Goldey-Beacom trails by two runs at the end of the fourth inning.

Felician started fast in the second matchup as the team had a 4-0 lead in the top fourth after scoring in every inning except the third to start the game.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, GBC Junior infielder Bobby Stewart slugged a two-run homer to left center to cut the deficit to two runs (4-2).

The Lightning take home a 5-4 win!

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Goldey-Beacom rallied by scoring two runs on a wild pitch to tie the game at four runs.

The game would end with Roman Keith pushing in the walk-off winner with a game-winning bases-loaded walk to seal a 5-4 victory.

Pitching Recap:

Senior pitcher Connor Blence started the game and went 6.2 innings, giving up nine hits, four runs, one earned run, one walk, and striking out three.

Junior pitcher Ty Federici earned the win in the game by pitching 0.1 innings.
