The Goldey-Beacom College softball team would earn a split on Monday over the College of Staten Island Dolphins as the team won the first game 6-1 and lost the second 6-4.

Goldey-Beacom takes a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning.
The two teams’ starting pitchers came out blazing in this one, as Staten Island’s Alexandra Frenza and GBC’s Senior starting pitcher Abigail O’Shields gave up a combined three hits in the first three innings of this game.
But that would all change at the top of the fourth, where sophomore infielder Autumn Simpson slapped an RBI double to center field to give the Lightning a 1-0 advantage.
The Lightning takes a three-run lead at the end of the fifth inning.
Goldey-Beacom would continue to widen their lead in the fifth inning, as the team scored three runs on four hits and one error to take a 4-0 edge.
Freshman Utility player McKenna Frank started the scoring in the inning by hitting an RBI single up the middle to give her team a 2-0 lead.
Two batters later, junior infielder Alex Lowry would knock an RBI single through the left side to push the team’s advantage to 3-0.
Junior infielder Bryn Bohmann would come up to the plate next, as she also smacked an RBI single through the left side to extend Goldey’s lead to 4-0.
The Dolphins would cut into the Lightning’s lead in the bottom of the inning, as Aileen Balderas hit an RBI single to left field to take the score to 4-1.
GBC leads by four runs at the end of the sixth inning.
Goldey-Beacom would put a little more cushion in their lead in the top of the sixth inning when McKenna Frank would push in her second run of the game with an RBI single to third base to take the score to 5-1.
Goldey-Beacom takes home a 6-1 victory!
The Lightning would add one last run in the top of the seventh inning, where sophomore infielder Autumn Simpson would reach first base on an error by CSI’s center field, which allowed a runner to go home to give their team a 6-1 edge.
Pitching Recap:
Abigail O’Shields posts her fourth game of the season where she struck out double-digits in batters, as she had ten in this win. O’Shields also went seven innings, gave up five hits, one run, one earned run, and earned the win.
