Idom & Sconiers combine for 26 points in Blue Hens 58-53 win over Vermont

Blue Hens lead by five points after one-quarter of play.

The game started with Delaware jumping out to a quick 5-2 lead with 8:48 left in the first quarter. Kharis Idom was the one to get everything rolling for the Hens as she drained a three-pointer for the team’s first points of the game.

Starting at the 6:14 minute mark, Vermont would outscore the University of Delaware 7-4 to tie the score at nine with 4:21 remaining in the game.

The Hens would respond by scoring five straight points, which would allow them to take a 14-9 advantage after one-quarter of play. Idom would drain her second shot from the three-point line in the first quarter during this run.

The game is all tied up at the end of the first half.

In the second quarter, the intensity of this matchup went up another level as the Blue Hens only held the lead four times, and the score was tied five times. The last bucket during this back-and-forth between the teams came from junior guard Tara Cousins, who hit a jump shot to tie the score at 26.

Hens up by one point after three-quarters of play.

The second half started with the Blue Hens outscoring the Catamounts 7-4 to take a slim 33-30 lead with 5:03 left in the third quarter. Kharis Idom continued to feel it from the three-point line, as she made her third one of the game during this time.

Starting at the 3:24 minute mark, the Hens would get outscored by Vermont 8-6, but they would still take a one point advantage (39-38) into the fourth quarter.

Fast Forward to the 6:19 minute mark in the third quarter, where Klarke Sconiers would hit a jump shot to give the Hens a 47-44 lead.

The Catamounts would not be down for long as the team scored four straight points to grab a one-point advantage (48-47) with 5:28 remaining in the game.

Starting at the 4:43 minute mark, Delaware would answer back with a 10-2 run, which gave the team a 57-50 lead with 12 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Fifth-year guard/forward Makayla Pippin and freshman guard Nakiyah Mays-Prince scored ten points on the run.

The Blue Hens would score one more point in the fourth quarter to seal a 58-53 win over Vermont. University of Delaware’s defense stepped up during this run, as the group had two steals and five defensive rebounds.
