Wilmington scores two runs in the first inning
The scoring in this game would get started in the bottom of the first, where Wilmington would put two runs on the board.
John Mead would push in the first run of the game by hitting an RBI double down the left-field line. Shawn Haut would be the next batter up as he also hit a double down the left-field line, which allowed Mead to score to give their team a 2-0 lead.
Three innings later, Wilmington would add another run to their lead as they would take a 3-0 advantage.
The bottom of the fourth inning started with John Mead hitting a single to the right side of the field. Three batters later, Alex Krick would hit a two-out RBI single to second base, which would send Mead home to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.
Wildcats win 6-2!
Fast forward to the bottom of the seventh inning, where WilmU would push in two more runs to extend their lead to 5-0.
Nic Hertzfeld would start the bottom of the seventh inning off by hitting a single up the middle of the field. Two plays later, freshman second baseman Shawn Edevane would reach base on a throwing error from the Devils, which allowed Hertzfeld to score to give their team a 4-0 lead.
Jack McDonald would be the next batter up, as he hit a single up the middle of the field, which would send Edevane home to expand Wilmington’s lead to 5-0.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, WilmU would add one more run to their lead to take a 6-0 advantage.
The run in the inning came when Matt Warrington hit an RBI single to left field to give his team a 6-0 lead.
After pitching eight shutout innings, Wildcats pitcher Ryan Sandberg was looking for one more to close out his dominant performance on the mound, but the ninth inning is when he would surrender his first two runs of the game.
Five batters in the top of the ninth inning, USciences Adam Estrada would step up to the plate, as he would hit an RBI double to trim the lead to 6-2.
The two runs would also knock Sandberg out of the game, as he went 8.2 innings, gave up four hits, two runs, two earned runs, two walks, 13 strikeouts, and earned the win.
AJ Stento closed out the game, as he went 0.1 innings, earned the save, and sealed the 6-2 win.
