Wilmington gets the scoring started in the first inning

The first run of the second game would come when Lauren Lopez hit a two-out RBI double to left-center field, which would give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Goldey-Beacom would answer back in the bottom of the inning with Bianca Newsom scoring on a throwing error from WilmU’s Adriana Bueno to tie the game at one.

Wildcats score ten runs in the second inning

In the top of the second inning, WilmU bats were blazing hot as the team pushed through ten runs in the inning.

The third batter of the second inning would be Danielle Hess, who would hit a triple to left-center field, which allowed Adriana Bueno to score from third to give their team a 2-1 lead.

Courtney Dellinger would step up to the plate next, as she would hit a single through the right side of the field, which allowed Hess to score to give the Wildcats a 3-1 lead.

Three batters later, with the bases loaded, Haley Downin would step up the plate, as she would reach first base on getting hit by a pitch, which would send Dellinger home to give their team a 4-1 advantage.

Two batters later, Emma Zimmerman would hit a two-out two-RBI single, which gave the Cats a 6-1 lead in the top of the second inning. The next batter up would be Bueno, as she would hit a three-run homer to center field to extend the Wildcats’ lead to 9-1.

Danielle Hess would send the last two baserunners home in the second inning, as she hit a two-run homer to expand her team’s lead to 11-1.

WilmU adds two more runs in the third inning

Wilmington would continue to add to their large lead as the team scored two more runs in the third inning to take a 13-1 advantage.

The two runs came when Adriana Bueno would reach first base by a throwing error from Goldey-Beacom’s third baseman, which allowed Lauren Lopez and Gabbie Saucedo to score to give their team a 13-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Lightning would have three hits and turn those hits into three runs, which cut the lead to 13-4. Two of the run came off a two-run homer from Jaeda Henriquez.

Wilmington wins 16-5!

After a silent fourth inning, the Wildcats’ bats would make some noise in the fifth inning to score three more runs to extend their lead to 16-4.

Adriana Bueno would knock in the first two runs in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run homer to give WilmU a 15-4 lead. Arianna Millan would be the next batter up, as she hit a solo home run to center field to extend her team’s lead to 16-4.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, it would all be up to Wildcats’ starting pitcher Renamarie Rocha to shut the door on the game, as she allowed one run, two hits, but was able to get the three outs to seal the 16-5 win. The one came when Goldey-Beacom’s Carly Settling stole home.
