Wilmington University’s pitching stifles Nyack hitters in sweep

Wilmington would get the scoring started in the second inning

Monday’s second game scoring started in the top of the second inning when WilmU’s Erik Grady hit an RBI single to right field to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Wildcats score a combined three runs in the fourth and fifth innings

Two innings later, the Wildcats would add two more runs to their lead.

The action of the bases in the top of the fourth inning would start with freshman third baseman Scott Borgmann hitting a double down the left field. Borgmann would then advance to third base on a balk. Erik Grady would be the next batter up, as he would hit a double to left-center field, which allowed Borgmann to score to give their team a 2-0 lead. After hitting the double, Grady would steal third base.

CJ Deery would step up to the plate next, as he would hit a single up the middle, which allowed Grady to score to extend Wilmington’s lead to 3-0.

In the next inning, the Wildcats’ bats would stay hot as Quintin Ivy would hit a solo home run to expand his team’s lead to 4-0. The home run would be Ivy’s 22nd of the season, and it would help him break the program’s record for career home runs.

Wilmington wins 5-2!

The bottom of the sixth inning would be the first time all-day Nyack would get on the scoreboard, as the team pushed through two runs to cut the lead to 4-2.

Both of the runs in the inning, came from a little help from WilmU’s mistakes, as the first run came from an error, and the second run came from a wild pitch.

Dom Grady relieved Maxwell, as he went 0.1 innings, and one strikeout.

In the top of the seventh inning, WilmU would add another run to their lead as John Mead would pop up to the second base, but it allowed Quintin Ivy to score to give their team a 5-2 advantage.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, AJ Stento would come out close to the 5-2 game, as he went one inning, one strikeout, and earned the save.
