Ligonde records career-high 31 points in Goldey-Beacom’s 80-78 overtime win over Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom trails by eight points at the end of the first half

The game started with the Lightning flying off to a 12-1 advantage with 12:55 remaining in the first half. Juran Ligonde scored seven of the 12 points on the run. Rebounding was also a factor on the run as the team collected ten rebounds.

Seventeen seconds later, Holy Family would claw right back into the game with a 15-6 run to cut the lead to two points (18-16) with 6:08 left in the first half.

Five seconds later, The Tigers would continue to bring the firepower on the offense as the team outscored Goldey-Beacom 15-3 to take a 31-21 lead with 33 seconds left in the first half.

The first half would end with the Lightning’s Mekhi Collins making two free throws to cut the lead to eight points (31-23).

Lightning’s Collins sends the game to OT!!

The second half started with Holy Family registering buckets at a blazing pace as the team went on a 21-4 run to take a 25 point lead (52-27) with 13:37 left in the game.

Things looked bleak for Goldey-Beacom, but the team did not throw in the towel as they fought to go on a 29-5 run to trim the lead to one point (57-56) with 5:18 remaining in the game. The trio of Juran Ligonde, Nazim Derry, and sophomore forward Mattia Morini scored 25 of the 29 points on the run. Rebounding was once again a factor on a Lightning’s run as the team collected 17 rebounds.

Seconds later, the Tigers would outscore Goldey-Beacom by 9-4 to push their lead back up to six points (66-60) with 1:54 left in the game.

Five seconds later, the Lightning would score seven unanswered points to take a 67-66 lead with 56 seconds remaining in the game.

Holy Family’s Kharon Rudolph would answer back with a made three-point shot to give his team a 69-67 lead with 15 seconds left in the game.

One of the biggest shots of the game came from Goldey’s Mekhi Collins, who hit a jump shot to tie the game at 69 and send it in to overtime!

Goldey-Beacom wins 80-78 in OT!

The Lightning would start the overtime period on a 9-2 run, which gave them a 78-71 advantage with 1:20 left in the game. The duo of Nazim Derry and Zack Oree would score seven of the nine points on the run.

Ten seconds later, Holy Family would score four straight points to cut the lead to three points (78-75) with 44 seconds remaining in the game.

Seventeen seconds later, Goldey-Beacom’s Oree would hit a jump shot in the paint to push the lead to five points (80-75) with 27 seconds left in the game.

As the seconds ticked down in the game, the Tigers would score three more points, but the Lightning would hold on to win 80-78.
