Wilmington leads by six points after one half of play
The Wildcats came out and dominated in the first five minutes of this game as they went on a 15-2 run. The duo of Caleb Matthews and Ethan Tarte would score nine of the 15 points on the run.
Starting at the 14:20 minute mark, Caldwell would claw right back into this game as the team went on a 17-7 run to cut the lead to three points (22-19) with 8:26 left in the first half.
As the minutes ticked down in the first half, Wilmington would outscore the Cougars 12-9 to take a 34-28 lead into halftime. During that time, Matthews and Redshirt senior Kameron Cooper each drained a three-point shot. Rebounding was also a factor during this time as the team collected eight rebounds. Danny Walsh also had an impact during that run as he scored two points, one block, one steal, two assists, and one rebound.
Wildcats win 76-68!
Caldwell would come out in the second half with renewed energy as the team outscored WilmU 13-7 in the first six minutes and 45 seconds to tie the game at 41.
Seconds later, Wilmington would answer back with a 15-6 run, which would push their lead to 56-47 with 7:14 remaining in the game. Danny Walsh would score six of the 15 points on the run. The Wildcats defense also played a part in the run as the team had four defensive rebounds and two steals.
The Cougars were not going down without a fight as the team went on a 7-1 run to trail by only three points (57-54) with 5:05 left in the second half.
Sixty-four seconds later, Wilmington would widen their lead as the team went on a 15-7 run to take a 72-61 advantage with 37 seconds left in the game. The trio of Caleb Matthews, Walsh, and Ethan Tarte would score 12 of the 15 points on the run.
As the remaining seconds slipped away in this game, Caldwell would outscore the Wildcats 7-4, but it would not matter as Wilmington hung on to win 76-68.
