Route 1 Rivalry: Blue Hens snag 59-48 win over in-state rivals Delaware State

Hens lead by six points after one half of play

The game began with the University of Delaware jumping out to a 16-8 lead with 6:45 left in the first half. The trio of Jameer Nelson Jr., Ryan Allen, and redshirt freshman Jyare Davis scored 10 of the 16 points on the run. Rebounding was a factor on this run, as the Hens collected 14 rebounds. The Blue Hens defense was solid in the run too, as they had three steals and one block.

At the 5:49 minute mark, the Hornets would start on a 6-2 run, which cut the lead to four points (18-14) with 3:55 left in the first half.

Delaware would outscore DSU 8-6 for the rest of the first half to end with a 26-20 lead.

Blue Hens win 59-48!

In the first three minutes of the second half, the University of Delaware would go on an 8-0 run, which pushed their lead to 34-20 with 17:33 left in the game. Ryan Allen and Jameer Nelson Jr. each drained a three-point shot on the run.

#BlueHens scored the first eight points of the second half before a Hornets bucket. Delaware up 34-22 with 15 minutes remaining.

Starting at the 15:45 minute mark, the Blue Hens would go on a 15-8 run, which extended their lead to 21 points (49-28) with 9:01 left in the game. Delaware would remain hot from the three-point line as Nelson, Allen, and fifth-year guard Kevin Anderson each drained one on the run.

Seconds later, the Hornets would go on a 20-10 run, but it would be too late as the Hens would hold on to take the 59-48 Route 1 Rivalry win.
